Sob Story

One of the joys of living on a student budget is, well, having to budget. Two adults, two kids, no jobs... you do the math.

I have been bothered with the recent decision between two items that are needed, a phone and a camera. My dilemma is thus:

My phone is dying. It dies daily. I wake up each morning half expecting that the phone will simply have kicked the bucket. I can't live without a phone, especially in the thick of things out in LA. When I got it many eons ago it was the cheapest phone available, and I'm pretty sure it was the last one AT&T ever sold. It was immediately rendered obsolete. I'd kind of like to have a phone that isn't the $25 piece of crap ones, and maybe one that actually takes decent pictures, has some fun functions, etc.

AND

We need a camera. We have a clunker SLR but for obvious reasons, I don't carry it around with me. When we are out and around I regret missing so many adorable photo-worthy moments! I take some pictures on my aforementioned useless phone, but I don't have any way to get the pictures off. Also, the SLR doesn't take digital video (hence the lack of videos on here), and I'd love to be able to do that...

So...

phone?

or

camera?

hmmm I would say go with a free phone and get a camera...and that is wisdom coming from an iphone owner. Smart phones are great but I would rather have a nice pocket size camera to take everywhere, especially with kids. Get the Iphone when Jared is done with school as your reward:) Plus, the worse part about smart phones are the monthly required media plans that are usually $30/month on top of everything else. You know you would rather spend $30 a month on something from anthro:)

I say, get a small cheap camera so you don't have an expensive monthly charge like we do. And now our new house is out of the ATandT network - so much for the great IPhones!

Mom

You should totally get a phone that has a nice-ish camera on it. I actually have one of the every 2 yr free phones and I'm amazed at the quality pics it takes. And it has a little card that fits into an SD card that I can use to get the pics onto my computer for prints and blogging. Problem solved.

I have a sony ericsson c900i (I think) which is an 11 mega pixel cybershot camera and a phone. No idea how much it would cost in the US but it was free with my contract in the UK - I've used it to take almost all the pictures on my facebook photo blog!
